Hawaii - Day 1; Just Getting Here

We made it!!  We took a nonstop flight from ATL to Honolulu which was about 9.5 hours of flying time.  The linux-based entertainment system refused to work; despite about five reboot attempts.  I would have felt better if it was a Windoze system.  (wink)  All in all, we all did pretty well on this flight, but  we were surely glad to finally land (compliments to the pilot for the best landing I've had in years!).

We got our rental and headed for the Turtle Bay Resort.  We enjoyed hearing Siri pronounce some of the roads around here even though she did a bit better than me actually.  We stopped in the little North Shore community of Haleiwa/Waialua for some lunch (or was it dinner or even a midnight snack?) at a place called Breakers that offered us this view as we enjoyed our first meal in Hawaii.

We then drove up the North Shore, past Weimea Bay (it was raining at this time and we were too tired to stop) and tons of busy public access beach parks, until we made it to Turtle Bay Resort.  After check-in, and despite all the heavy clouds, we wandered down to see the ocean and check out the property.

So nice to see Connor smiling and the two of them having fun together.

Gretchen was having a field day, too, checking out all the wildlife and grounds.

Here's a "few" more of the property.

Ok... a few more... including our balcony view.

Again, travel day for the most part and we're sure looking to Day 2 where we'll go into Honolulu and hit the major sites like Pearl Harbor, Diamond Head and so on.
