The Mississippi River Bridges at Vicksburg

Just got home from a trip back to Texas for the holidays and thought I’d share some pics and video of the bridges over the Mississippi River at Vicksburg, MS. Since moving out to Georgia, I must have driving over this bridge 25+ times now and while it isn’t the most exciting blog post ever I still think it is a solid piece of engineering.

According the the wikipedia article, the full bridge is almost 13,000 feet long and you are elevated a long time before you actually start crossing the river.

Once you get under the steel cantilever section you can see that it is wide as it spans the nearly 900 feet wide river.

Off to the left is the “old” Vicksburg Bridge that opened in 1930.

And to the right, as shown in the video, is a view of the Mighty Mississippi.

Just a cool bridge to drive on!!

And then you enter Mississippi!
