Six Cleveland Area Waterfalls in Two Days

I’m back out here in Cleveland for the second time this year and thrilled it is NOT insanely cold like I experienced when I visited in January. On my first two days of teaching I headed out to some of the Cleveland area parks, including Cuyahoga Valley NP, to take in a few https://martin.atlassian.net/wiki/pages/createpage.action?spaceKey=ATM&title=Waterfall%20Hikes.

Day One

Before leaving home, I had planned to visit these four waterfalls on my first full evening. It was tiring for sure, but so glad to see these magnificent wonders.

Great Falls of Tinder Creek

After I lost about an hour of time due to Google Maps taking me to the wrong side of a big ridge (hey, I probably needed that hike!) I finally got to the correct park and had a nice stroll down a well paved path. Before I got to the waterfalls itself I got to see some interesting and pretty sights.

The Great Falls of Tinder Creek itself was not very tall, but it was wide and surely did not disappoint.

Bridal Veil Falls

Next stop was Bridal Veil Falls was clearly the least exciting waterfall of the day, but I am always up for a short hike in nature!!

Brandywine Falls

I had plenty of daylight left when I made it to the gem of the Cuyahoga Valley NP; Brandywine Falls.

What a beautiful waterfall and I was so glad to find so much volume running down it.

I could have watched it for an hour and the sounds was so mesmerizing, but I still had another waterfall to go; and truthfully, a covered bridge, but I’ll blog about that separately.

Blue Hen Falls

Even though these pictures don’t suggest it, I arrived at the trailhead for Blue Hen Falls just before dusk. Thankfully, it was less than a half mile hike down to the waterfall. About half way there I heard some noises behind me to the left. I spun around and almost crapped my pants when I saw two skunks approaching. Fortunately, I realized neither had the classic white stripe down there back and discovered I was looking a black squirrels which I had never seen.

The waterfall itself was not very tall, but it had a very pretty look to it with the classic protruding shelf and the pool below. I’m glad I was able to see it.

I got back to the car just in time as the sun was going down very fast.

As Beck was singing; I Guess I’m Doing Fine.

Day Two

I shared my adventures with my students and they recommended a few more to do on my second day of class.

Buttermilk Falls

One gentleman pointed out that Buttermilk Falls was only five minutes from our training location. I checked out this simple little waterfall during lunch.

Chagrin Falls

I was excited to hear about the Village of Chagrin Falls whose waterfall runs through the center of town and has a great observation deck.

I could not help but linger at the top of the observation area heading back to my car. Simply beautiful.

What a whirlwind of treats of running around after class two nights in a row. I never really thought about Cleveland having waterfalls, so seeing SIX in such a compressed timeframe surely was a blessing & joy!
