Looking Down on Pittsburgh From the Duquesne Incline

Before I saw some https://martin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/jazzyearl/blog/2020/02/11/1498775682, I started the morning riding the Duquesne Incline in Pittsburgh, PA.

After crossing the street in the pedestrian overpass and buying my round trip ticket (this is a functioning public transportation option), I got to look straight up the track.

Less than five minutes later, and a LOT of wood and cable “popping” sounds that made me feel a bit nervous, I was at the top station. It was a nice view all the way up looking back on the city.

There was a bit of a museum and gift shop at the top and I learned more about the furnicular’s history and operation.

I got this nice shot of the city from the observation deck.

I was about to line up to ride back down when the attendant asked if I’ve seen the “Points of View” sculpture.

So glad she told me about it as I’d seen the sculpture in pictures before, but did not know I was about a quarter-mile away. Definitely worth the short hike – even on such a cold winter day.

Even got to learn some more history. Always good to learn something about the world around us and the history that happened.

A short walk back to the station and got a ride down all by myself.

Overall, a fun little stop and I was grateful for visiting off-peak as I’ve heard you can wait 20-30 minutes on both sides waiting to get into the cable car.
