Return to Heidelberg

I am lucky enough to visit Germany again; this time on a purely personal trip. We landed in Munich early on Sunday and followed that up with a much needed multi-hour nap. Afterwards, we heading into the city a bit before an early dinner and going to sleep. Why? Because the agenda for Monday and Tuesday was to take a train out to Heidelberg and back. Yep, the same town I did my https://martin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/jazzyearl/blog/2017/09/08/121929805/Canoeing+Down+Germany%27s+Neckar+River and https://martin.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/jazzyearl/blog/2017/09/09/122388481/Hiking+Up+to+Schloss+Heidelberg adventures back in 2017. To me, Heidelberg is still my most favorite city in Germany that I have ever been to.

You always have to go out on the Old Bridge that was built in 1788.

As seen above, you can see the old town if your cross it to the other side. You also get to see the Heidleberg Castle.

Looking back after you cross into the city you can see the bridge towers which were undergoing renovation during this visit.

Looking forward you can see the Gothic Church of the Holy Spirit.

You cannot miss it once you get into the Marketplatz.

So pretty to just wander around and see this great “old town”.

Last visit I hiked up to the castle, but this time the crowds were not as big and we had plenty of time to take the funicular railroad up, but… it was undergoing its yearly inspection. They were kind enough to offer free bus rides up to the top and I was just lazy enough to accept!! Here are a bunch of pictures from up above the city on the grounds of the Heidelberg Castle.

And, of course, BEAUTIFUL views of the city below!

This visit we had time to buy tickets and go through the gate.

And into the courtyard…

Another great view of the old town below on this side of the castle.

Nice place for a selfie, too!

After the train ride out to Heidelberg from Munich and then wondering around until the early evening, we had a nice dinner at a restaraunt with tables out in the Marketplatz before calling it a day.

After some much needed rest, the highlight of Tuesday was getting out on the river for a little boat ride.

The rest of Tuesday was spent walking down the side streets exploring this awesome German town.

We finished the day with a train ride back to Munich. Heidelberg is still my most favorite Germany town and I hope these pictures help you understand why.
