PLACEHOLDER…
Finally made it to Palembang, Indonesia! Where is Palembang, Indonesia? Well, it is on the Island of Sumatra just south of Singapore as highlighted below.
WHY am I in Palembang? Well, it has something to do with putting on this awesome hat and being a part of the (second) wedding of these two goofballs!
All of that is a whole other story, but… I will say that an 8 hour long ceremony in a giant hall that does NOT have air conditioning (and you are sitting on the equator) is just a tad bit longer than you think it is ahead of time. Especially when you get to party with 500 of the bride’s best friends!
Oh yeah… I got to shake all 500 people’s hands! Don’t worry, 2 nice ladies wore masks! At least we had something to eat!!
It was definitely an EXPERIENCE, but I’m glad I was able to be there for my brother, Eric, and my long-time penpal, Tina. There ceremony was great and I would not have missed it for the world.
That said… I was so happy I decided to head back to the peace and quiet of the Novotel Palembang Hotel.
Sure, they have LOTS of things to do in town…
But all I wanted to do was enjoy the beauty of the retreat from this busy city!
So many pretty flowers all over this beautiful property.
I loved these flowers so much I decided to start a flickr flowers album to post them to.
Nice view of the pool from my room.
With more pretty flowers off the patio.
If all of that didn’t convince you need to stay here next time you’re in Palembang, then know they also share my philosophy of durians! Don’t know about the durian, then check out Don't Mess With Melaka for my first (and only) time I ate a durian.
Seriously, this place brought a smile to my pretty face! It was almost perfect!
I was lucky enough to visit Singapore - The Lion City before COVID and extremely lucky to visit again. This time, I wanted to make sure I visited the iconic Gardens by the Bay. There are 18 of these famous Supertrees around the grounds.
There are a few other things to do while at the Gardens. I was lucky to check out a couple of the gigantic enclosed structures.
Flower Dome
The Flower Dome was a huge treat. Not only do I love taking pictures of flowers, but they had the AC blasting in there!!
What a great place for a selfie!
It is called the Flower Dome, so I’d better share some flowers like you see in the picture above.
It is hard to visualize just how big this HUGE covered garden is!
Cloud Forest
The Cloud Forest is another gigantic domed building – visions of the original Logan’s Run were dancing through my head! As a lover of Waterfalls, I was glad to encounter this incredible man-made beast just as you walk in!
The other thing you notice in a hurry is that there is no AC in this dome. That said, the beauty of it all overwhelms you and you quickly forget about the humidity. Well, mostly forget about it; haha! Let me just show you some pictures to try to show you how cool it really is.
The Supertrees
It was dark when I got back outside and enjoyed the night time perspective of the Supertrees and some of the surrounding iconic images of Singapore.
Goodnight, sweet Singapore.
