Little Rock Creek Falls

Little Rock Creek Falls

In efforts to update my Waterfalls page, this Oct 2011 trip was back-posted in Jun 2015.

As I've posted in other Waterfalls entries, I've used Waterfall Hikes of North Georgia as a guidebook for many of these trips.  Here's an example of what you get from that book.

This trip involved several miles driving down a Forest Service road and just getting to the trail-head provided us with some beautiful views.

Somehow, everyone's spirits were still high after driving so far from home.

There was a cool old bridge next to where we parked our car that was no longer in service, but presented itself as a nice photo opportunity.

And my girls offered up a great photo op of their own on top of this old bridge.

We quickly started working down the barely visible path to find the falls on Little Rock Creek.

Thankfully, some folks before us left us some trail markers that reminded me of all the times with my kids on YMCA Adventure Guides camping trips.

As with the start of the hike, we stayed fired-up along the way.

The lower falls (a tiny bit of it showing over my shoulder above) was very hard to see due to all of the trees lining the creek bed.  When we finally made it to the final falls, it was the same thing again with the obstructed view as seen below.

That said, I drove to far to not get a closer view.  After some adventurous trail blazing, and a pretty good slip, I made it to the base of this 50 foot horsetail waterfall.

I enjoyed it so much that I did go off the path again to try and see the "bonus falls" identified in my book, but I only got a good view of the 40 foot dam-based waterfall.  I tried to get down to the final 15 foot tiered fall, but it was just too wild down there.

We were even treated to another little dam-based waterfall several miles down the road on the way back home.

A great hike with the whole family, plus seeing a cool 50 foot waterfall -- I couldn't ask for anything more!
